April

April 6 – Navarro College Student Art Showcase – 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. – The Pearce Museum located on the Corsicana Navarro College campus – 3100 W. Collin Street – Opening night reception and art sale.

Easter Hop – 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. – Downtown Corsicana – Games, prizes, a visit with the Easter Bunny and more.

April 8 – Mimosas at the Market – 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Downtown Corsicana – Victorian Sample is hosting the event, with live music by Raquel Lindemann from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Easter in the Park – 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. – Mike Dickens Memorial Park, located at 101 Sunrise Circle in Rice.

A Zion’s Rest (Old Duncan) Cemetery Association workday – 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. – Everyone in Navarro County who is interested in Zion’s Rest Cemetery is requested to meet at the cemetery on Saturday. This is in preparation for the organization’s first annual meeting to be held on April 15.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie premiere event – 12:30 p.m. – Schulman’s Movie Bowl Grille, located at 3501 Corsicana Crossing Boulevard – Reserve tickets here.

Support Elixis’ Trip to the Congress of Future Medical Leaders Silent Auction and Cornhole Tournament

April 13 – Mayoral Candidate Forum – 6 p.m. – City Government Center in Downtown Corsicana

Classical Piano Concert featuring Dr. Amanda Hughes and Professor Emeritus Sheila Herod – 7 p.m. – Palace Theatre in Downtown Corsicana

April 14 – Food Truck Fridays are returning. The next event will be from 6 to 10 p.m. on Friday, April 14, then every first Friday of the month through the summer at 224 E. Fifth Avenue.

April 15 – E-Waste Day – 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. – 4021 W E State Hwy 22 in the Youth Expo parking lot

The first of what is hoped to become an annual event for the Zion’s Rest (Old Duncan) Cemetery Association will be held on April 15 at the cemetery. Business meeting from 2 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. with cemetery cleanup from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Everyone who is interested in Zion’s Rest Cemetery is invited to meet at the cemetery on North Beaton just past Northpark.

April 23 – Cassaro Winery hosts Olive Oil and Wine Pairing from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. – The Cassaro Olive Oil and Wine Pairing Tasting event features four imported olive oils paired with award-winning Cassaro wine, and guests will enjoy olive oil-based dishes to complete the pairing. April 24 – Storefront, in collaboration with the Corsicana Public Library, also welcomes children’s author and illustrator Kaz Windneaa to share her insights on how to get published, with helpful tips and hints, and sign her book, Worm and Caterpillar Are Friends. This is a free event. – 4 p.m. – 200 W. Commerce Street at Fifth Avenue.

April 27 – Kerens Library 11th Annual Author’s Luncheon – 12 p.m. – Kerens Ex-Student Association building, 201 SW Second Street in downtown Kerens. Speaker is Kay Seamayer also know as Granny Globetrotter. She co-authored a book with her husband, Rudy Seamayer, of his courageous fight for survival during and after World War II on coming to America from Yugoslavia. Tickets are $15.00 each and may be purchased by calling the Kerens Library, 903-396-3025, paying with credit card and ticket will be at “will call” at the door. Tickets may also be purchased from Library board members. No tickets will be sold at the door. Lunch will be catered by KESA Cooking Team. Her book will also be for sale at $15.00 a copy. April 29 – Storefront art and bookstore will feature authors for conversation and book signings surrounding Open Studios and the 10th Anniversary of Independent Bookstore Day Saturday, April 29.  Authors Elissa Altman (Motherland: A Memoir of Love, Loathing, and Longing)  and Leigh N. Gallagher  (Who You Might Be) will read from their latest works at 1 p.m. at a reception in their honor. This is a free event. 100 West will host Open Studios. – 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. – 100 W. Beaton Street.

May 5 – Oakwood Odyssey, Historically Speaking, seated performance 7 p.m. Friday, May 5, Corsicana Public Library. Saturday, May 6, walking tours at Oakwood Cemetery starts at 5:30 p.m. and continues at 15-minute intervals until 7:00 p.m.  Call 903-654-4808 for ticket information.

This year the Genealogy Department is celebrating 175 years of Corsicana Historically Speaking. Entities it takes to make a community grow will be highlighted. Its people, medical, education, religion, government, architect, businesses, and special to Corsicana…oil stories will be brought to life through first-person presentations.
