Mortal Kombat 30th Anniversary

Mortal Kombat

John F. Kaiser III & Guy Chapman – Navarro County Gazette

30 Years of Kombat, Fatalities, Friendships, and Victories! Join us as we celebrate the legacy of Mortal Kombat!

Mortal Kombat is not only an iconic series of video games, it has a legacy that involves Corsicana. When Williams Entertainment/Midway Home Entertainment purchased local video game publisher Tradewest to secure a home publishing route for it’s arcade hits, the launch of Mortal Kombat 3 took the gaming world by storm and as the stories go, temporarily overloaded local phone lines due to the massive amount of calls coming in.

It is an honor for both myself and editor-in-chief, Guy Chapman, to post this article in celebration of Mortal Kombat’s 30th celebration. Chapman was there at the home console launch of Mortal Kombat 3, whereas I did not come onboard till closer to the Mortal Kombat 4 era. If any of you reading this were gamers back then, before the internet, and you called Midway to get the moves, fatalities and secret codes for Mortal Kombat games, you could have very well talked to one of us.

The original Mortal Kombat arcade game debuted on Oct. 8, 1992.

To commemorate the anniversary, NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. Game shared the following celebratory quote:

On behalf of the entire team at NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. Games, thank you to all of the fans who have supported Mortal Kombat throughout the past 30 years. As we look back on three decades of franchise history, the passion and excitement of our fans are the foundation that makes Mortal Kombat what it is today.
