To whom it may concern,

The City of Corsicana is excited to celebrate the upcoming 175th anniversary of the city’s founding. Planning for the event began in the Spring including research of past cities’ celebrations, gathering budgetary costs, and more. The steering committee that was formed was chosen based on organizations that have participated in events in the past and plan to participate in the future 175th events.

For example, Navarro College, Navarro County, Corsicana Independent School District, YMCA, Corsicana Preservation Foundation, Palace Theatre, Collin Street Bakery, Oil City Iron Works, Boys and Girls Club of Navarro County, Republic Services, Corsicana & Navarro County Chamber of Commerce, and more. Since the steering committee has been announced, there has been an open call asking for more community volunteers that wish to be involved and we encourage anyone to be a part.

The events that were announced in our recent press release do not reflect all of the yearlong celebrations, yet only the events that have been finalized by their organizers. The steering committee discussed many other events that we are waiting for organizational sponsors such as a Jewish Temple Tour celebrating our Jewish heritage, Dia de los Muertos that celebrates our Hispanic heritage, Black History Month celebrations with the GW Jackson Multicultural Society, and more.

Since these events are still in the early planning stages and no dates have been finalized, we felt it would be premature to announce such events at this time. Celebrating all these events was expressed to be very important to the steering committee and we are in full support of celebrating all cultures as well as the other historical landmarks in our time.

If any community members wish to be involved or share ideas, they can contact the Main Street office at 903-654-4851 or email Amy Tidwell, Main Street Director at atidwell@corsicanatx.gov.

Sincerely,

Amy Tidwell
