From Staff Reports

Screams of joy and leaps of jubilation followed the announcement of April’s Sweepstakes ratings for the Corsicana Middle School Band. The almost four dozen musicians have worked since January, and that hard work paid off.

Five out six judges scored the band with “1s”, which means superior ratings, and an excellent rating, said Billy Mere, Head Band Director.

The beat of CMS performed three pieces at Groesbeck High School: “March-Andalucia,” “Zig Zag,” and “Red Giant.”

“I feel really excited and proud of the kids,” Mere said. “I am excited about the prospect of furthering the middle school band program.”

The award-winning outing marked the final junior high competition for most of the band members, as 30 of 45 are moving on to Corsicana High School next year. It is not the final performance, though.

The CMS band will perform during its spring concert on Monday, May 9 at Corsicana High School, located at 3701 E. State Hwy 22.
