From Staff Reports

A man is dead and a suspect is in custody after a shooting around 5:03 p.m. Monday, Feb. 7 in the 100 block of Bonner Avenue in Angus.

According to a press release issued by the Navarro County Sheriff’s Office, officers determined 20-year old Michael Preston Edwards to be the suspect of the shooting of 82-year old victim, Phil Clark. Clark was discovered with a gunshot wound to the head by NCSO deputies upon arrival to the scene.

Clark was taken to Navarro Regional Hospital where he died of his injuries.

Edwards fled the scene before deputies arrived, having left in a 2012 red Nissan Altima. Investigators learned of the suspect’s location, and notified a Department of Public Safety Texas Ranger in the Houston area.

Edwards was found and arrested on a murder warrant in Hempstead, and later arraigned in Waller County on a murder warrant out of Navarro County. The suspect will be transported back to the Navarro County Justice Center.

“The Navarro County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank and acknowledge DPS Texas Ranger unit, Hempstead Police Department, and the Waller County Sheriff’s Office for the apprehension of this suspect,” stated the press release.

This case is still currently under investigation.
