From Staff Reports

EDITOR’S NOTE: This is an update to a recent news story being investigated throughout the week.

On Sunday Jan. 2 at approximately 2:24 p.m., the Corsicana Police Department received a 911 call reporting a major accident in the 1100 block of S. 29th Street. Upon arrival, officers found a vehicle which had crashed into a fence. The vehicle had extensive damage from multiple gunshots. Four victims were found inside of the vehicle.

The male driver and male front seat passenger were deceased at the scene. They have been identified as 23-year-old David Espinoza, and 22-year-old Angel Tristen Balderas. Both victims were Corsicana residents. Two other passengers in the vehicle were severely injured and were hospitalized in the DFW area.

On Wednesday Jan. 5, the Corsicana Police Department arrested 26-year-old Santiago Solis for the deaths of David Espinoza and Angel Tristen Balderas. Mr. Solis has been charged Capital Murder and two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. He was also charged with an unrelated Sex Offender Duty to Register Life/Annually. He is currently incarcerated in the Navarro County Jail under a $925,000 bond.

Although the suspect is under arrest, this is still an ongoing investigation. With the exception of the name of the arrestee, no further details will be released at this time as we continue the investigation.
