Social media services unavailable to public for majority of day
By Guy Chapman – Navarro County Gazette
If you had trouble accessing the Facebook social media platform today, you’re not alone.
The online site, along with Facebook owned Instagram and its Whatsapp text messenger, were unavailable to the public for an average of six today, with online security experts pointing to a Domain Name System (DNS) issue as the explanation. The outage’s reach was worldwide.
Facebook acknowledged the site’s downtime on Twitter today.
“We’re aware that some people are having trouble accessing our apps and products,” Facebook said on the platform. “We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible, and we apologize for any inconvenience.”
“We are experiencing networking issues and teams are working as fast as possible to debug and restore as fast as possible,” Facebook CTO Mark Schroepfer added on his own Twitter profile.
While service is now currently back online, resuming a normal posting schedule after an hours long outage will take some time before user normalcy is fully restored in all regions.
