Yes We Can

It’s a sure sign of one’s age when Olivia Newton-John song names are just casually thrown about, but for this week, it’s about as accurate of an intro as one can get.

From 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday Sept. 7 at the Storefront bookstore, located at 203 N. Commerce in Downtown Corsicana, we’ll be releasing our first printed physical publication, a 50-page look back at the first year featuring a curated selection of articles.

The books will run $5, with a limited print run of 250 copies. John and I will both be on-hand to talk about the the first year, and how the Gazette came about. If you can’t make the event, don’t worry. Storefront will continue to carry the book until it sells out.

Due to the nature of our current environment, we would prefer this to be a masked event if possible, and thank you in advance for your consideration.

But did I mention there will be snacks? And drinks?

This annual has been a culmination of a literal year’s worth of work. Since day one, we’ve had numerous people ask us “Where is the print edition?” It’s still a “Someday” answer, but we decided some time back if we ever do go the print route, it’s going to have to be something special. I wanted something a little more collectible, and less disposable.

And yes, the plan is to do a special issue each year. A yearbook-style summary of annual events.

I’m really looking forward to sharing this issue with people. Making some cuts on content was hard as there have been some really interesting things that happened this past year, and letting some of those stories go was hard. But they’re still easily accessible online, and between John and myself, we have chosen a selection we’re satisfied with.

As soon as Tuesday’s event is over, we’ll be setting up plans for “Year Two.” There’s still so much to cover in Navarro County. Our goal for the Gazette is to eventually cover the entirety of the area, as we believe everyone has a story to tell. If we manage to complete that goal, we’ll start all over again from the beginning.

Keep being interesting out there. We’ll find you soon.
