Navarro Colleges huge yearly fundraiser is in final preparations for the big night.

One of the glitziest, hardest to get in, events each year is Navarro College’s Dancing for our Stars fundraising event, which has raised roughly $805,000 dollars to date. Local couples spend months working on their routines, honing each step with dance instructors Diana and Adelaide Castillo, and Sarah Guerrero. Attendees, and viewers online then vote with their wallets on their favorite couples, and the proceeds then fund scholarships for students and classroom support for faculty.
While it is difficult to get in, Navarro College streams the event live so everyone anywhere can watch the festivities, and more importantly vote with their donations. This is for the students after all. If you would like to vote now, or watch live, you can find out how on their website www.navarrocollege.edu/foundation/dfos/index.html
But the dancers are not the only ones hard at work preparing for this gala event. Many departments at the college start months and months in advance planning each detail and coming together to pull off quite the spectacle.
Last night was the final dress rehearsal for the 6th annual Dancing for our Stars, and the first time they had an invited audience. Nerves were high as the dancers two by two came out and gave it their all. Keep in mind these are not professional dancers, but bankers and constables, assistant DAs and business owners stepping out of their comfort zones.
Each tech person was laser-focused making sure all the audio, video, and lighting are working properly, making adjustments and programming as they go along – A task they usually have weeks for, but are doing in just a matter of days for this years event. Event staff were running to and fro making last minute checks and securing any missing wardrobe pieces.
While it was a dress rehearsal you got to get a solid idea of what to expect, and this year’s Dancing for our Stars looks to be as memorable as the last one I was able to attend in 2019. Each couple had a unique routine. They ranged from heartwarming and touching, to humorous, to just all out fun. Speaking of the dancers, here are this years:
Note: you do not have to be watching live to vote! If you are unavailable to watch and vote during the live stream you can go and vote on the website at any time from now throughout the event.
